|
| How
long did your screenplay
take to write, from conception
to final completion? |
| About
8 months. I generally don't
take this long, but I'm
selling a real bizarre concept
here, so this one needed
a little more time to soak. |
|
| Where
did your inspiration come
from? |
| I
was at a friend's wedding,
letting my imagination do
its thing. I saw a shape
with wings flying behind
the Church's stained glass
windows. That is how this
one started, though that
initial spark of inspiration
didn't even make it to the
final draft. |
|
| Is
Horror or Sci-Fi your main
creative interest? |
| I
absolutely love horror.
I've written about 10 horror
scripts, most of which have
reached the finals in many
different contests. |
|
| Can
you describe a typical day
in the process of creating
your film or screenplay? |
| Ideas
come at any time at all.
I cultivate them with long
drives, and when I go to
bed at the end of the day
is where most of the creativity
kicks in. I spend hours
awake, fleshing out the
rest of the story. If I
get goose bumps or if my
eyes well up, I know I got
something scary, and I get
up and jot it down. |
|
| Who
do you consider to be the
greatest horror writer? |
| For
me it's Stephen King. |
|
| Can
you recall the first horror
film that left a lasting
impression on you? |
| First
film for me was "Trilogy
of Terror", a 1970's
made-for-TV-movie with Karen
Black. A tiki-doll comes
to life and attacks her
in her apartment. Scary
as hell, and basically the
very beginnging of my infatuation
with horror. I was just
a kid. A terrified, happy
little kid. |
|
| Who
do you consider to be the
greatest 'Masters of Horror'? |
| That's
a tough one. I love John
Carpenter's, "Halloween",
but Stephen King has just
so many great stories. Tod
Browning created great atmosphere
back in the day, "Freaks"
and "Mark of the Vampire",
etc. |
|
| Do
you currently have any attachments
and/or a cast wishlist for
your screenplay? |
| Colin
Farrell as 'Jack', and believe
it or not Ashton Kutcher
as 'Tom'. Give them my number,
would ya? |
|
| Who
do you see directing your
screenplay and why? |
| Recently
I saw John Carpenter's "Cigarette
Burns", part of the
Masters of Horror series.
I liked the atmosphere,
and part of that helped
inspire my story. Also,
and though there isn't much
blood in my story, I like
Eli Roth's cinematography
and editing. |
|
| How
many edits has your screenplay
gone through? |
| At
least 5. |
|
Was
this your first screenplay?
If so, are you inspired
to write another? |
| Script
number eight this was. I
have completed another one
since, and I'm half-way
through yet another. The
ideas control me. I just
write them down. |
