|
| How
long did your screenplay
take to write, from conception
to final completion? |
| Just
under a year. |
|
| Where
did your inspiration come
from? |
| The
immaculate conception must
have been scary for the
original Mary - what if
there was no angel to tell
her what was going on? I
updated that to a modern-day
Mary, a rebellious college
freshman, who finds herself
unexpectedly pregnant with
the Second Coming. And chased
by demons. |
|
| Is
Horror or Sci-Fi your main
creative interest? |
| Thrillers
with action, horror, and
comedic elements. I like
realistic creepiness and
strong, relatable protagonists. |
|
| Can
you describe a typical day
in the process of creating
your screenplay? |
| I
write in hour and a half
blocks - about as long as
I'm useful at a stretch,
and it's more productive
than trying to cram all
your writing time into five
hours on a Saturday, feeling
guilty and pressured. I
do a block every day, try
to do two on the weekends. |
|
| Who
do you consider to be the
greatest horror writer? |
| I
have a soft spot for Stephen
King (especially The Stand
and It), although I don't
think he's always translated
well to film. HP Lovecraft
is a great source of inspiration
for reality-bending creepiness. |
|
| Can
you recall the first horror
film that left a lasting
impression on you? |
| Nightmare
on Elm Street - saw it at
a friend's birthday party,
didn't sleep for two days. |
|
| Who
do you consider to be the
greatest 'Masters of Horror'? |
| Wes
Craven, both for pushing
the limits of the genre
(The Hills Have Eyes) and
reinvigorating it (Scream).
Guillermo del Toro, for
his action/horror blend
(Blade II, Hellboy) and
his beautiful adult horror
fairy tale, Pan's Labyrinth.

|
| Do
you currently have any attachments
and/or a cast wishlist for
your screenplay? |
| No. |
|
| Who
do you see directing your
screenplay and why? |
| Ideally,
me - I'm a writer/director,
and this story has been
with me for years. I know
how to tell it, how to nail
the tricky tone. |
|
| How
many edits has your screenplay
gone through? |
| Ten. |
|
Was
this your first screenplay?
If so, are you inspired
to write another? |
| It's
my third screenplay, and
I'm currently in the trenches
on my fourth. (Werewolves
are good times.) |
