Q&A with Robert Garvey
How long did your screenplay take to write, from conception to final completion?
I came up with the story 20 years ago. I wrote the script 15 years ago. Gave it the final touches in June. So a long time is my answer. Considering it only took 10 years to go to the moon.
Where did your inspiration come from?
From that old theatrical phrase, "There are no bit parts..."
Are Horror and Sci-Fi your main creative interests?
Actually it's horrible sci-fi.
Can you describe a typical day in the process of creating your film or screenplay?
I stare at the computer screen, write something, then stare some more. I'll pace a bit, throw some water on my face. I'll think about going out to get some food, decide not to, then take a nap.
Who do you consider to be the greatest horror writer?
Martha Stewart.
Can you recall the first horror film that left a lasting impression on you?
"The House On Haunted Hill." I still can't really talk about it
Who do you consider to be the greatest 'Masters of Horror'?
The Current Administration.
Do you currently have any attachments and/or a cast wishlist for your screenplay?
I would just love to see it made. Odds aren't good, then again, who knows? It would just be so great to see it somewhere else, outside of my head.
Who do you see directing your screenplay and why?
Peter Jackson!!! He's the only one who could actually get it done. For me, it's not Obi-Wan but Jackson that is my only hope.
How many edits has your screenplay gone through?
A gaggoogle.
Was this your first screenplay?
If so, are you inspired to write another?
It was actually. It's hard to get people to read your stuff so there's no way to tell if what your writing is any good so getting to the finals of Shriekfest is hugely encouraging. I hope there's much more to come.
