|
| How
long did your screenplay
take to write, from conception
to final completion? |
| My
screenplay has been written
and rewritten over the course
of several years. I would
say it still hasn't reached
a state of final completion. |
|
| Where
did your inspiration come
from? |
| My
inspiration came from stubbling
across a short article about
a company in England that
is creating a real life
version of the soul catcher
-- a computer chip with
enough memory to record
every memory, every emotion
of a person's life. |
|
| Is
Horror or Sci-Fi your main
creative interest? |
| This
is actually my first Sci-Fi
script, though I grew up
watching Sammy Terry's Nightmare
Theater every Friday night
on an Indianapolis TV station. |
|
| Can
you describe a typical day
in the process of creating
your screenplay? |
| Get
up, have coffee, get the
kids off to school, have
more coffee, pound my head
against the computer screen,
write some, pick up the
kids from school, make dinner,
fall asleep thinking about
the next scene. |
|
| Who
do you consider to be the
greatest horror writer? |
| Does
Mary Shelley count as a
horror writer? Whatever.
She wrote a brilliant, chilling
piece of fiction at the
tender age of 19. |
|
| Can
you recall the first horror
film that left a lasting
impression on you? |
| When
I was about 10 my father
took me to a screening of
the 1925 version of Phantom
of the Opera at the local
college with live organ
accompaniment. It's a credit
to Lon Chaney's powerful
performance (He is still
my favorite horror actor.)
that he could scare the
shit out of me some 4 decades
after he died. |
|
| Who
do you consider to be the
greatest 'Masters of Horror'? |
| I
do love George Romero. He
knows how to make a damn
good horror movie that goes
far beyond the genre. |
|
| Do
you currently have any attachments
and/or a cast wishlist for
your screenplay? |
| No
attachments. I did see Charlize
Theron playing Rebecca,
and perhaps Thora Birch
playing Marnia. |
|
| Who
do you see directing your
screenplay and why? |
| Alfred
Hitchcock. But I hear he's
dead. |
|
| How
many edits has your screenplay
gone through? |
| God,
I would be afraid to count
them. A manager once told
me that the real work doesn't
begin until after the 10th
draft. |
|
Was
this your first screenplay?
If so, are you inspired
to write another? |
| This
was about my 5th screenplay.
I do have another horror
script in the works. I think
it's going to be interesting. |
