|
| How
long did your project take
to create, from conception
to final completion? |
| About
six months. A week to write
the screenplay, three months
to get the finance, three
weeks of pre-production,
six days to shoot, six days
to edit, three weeks sound
mixing. |
|
| Where
did your inspiration come
from? |
| Becoming
a father was a major inspiration.
I wanted to exorcise my
deepest fears as a parent. |
|
| Is
Horror or Sci-Fi your primary
creative interest? |
| As
a moviegoer, my favorite
genre is thriller. As a
filmmaker, this is the direction
I'm heading at the moment. |
|
| Can
you describe a typical day
in the creative process? |
| Sitting
at my computer, writing
scenes or mapping out shots
and preparing shotlists.
That's a crucial part of
my job. Shooting is only
the next step. If it's not
prepared enough, you're
throwing money out of the
window. |
|
| Who
do you consider to be the
greatest horror writer? |
| Stephen
King. |
|
|
| Can
you recall the first horror
film that left a lasting
impression on you? |
| Poltergeist. |
|
| Who
do you consider to be the
greatest 'Master of Horror'? |
| The
greatest horror films were
not made by any of the 'Masters
of Horror". They were made
by great directors who keep
walking through genres (Spielberg,
Coppola, Ridley Scott, etc.)
So I'd stick with Hitchcock. |
|
| How
did you find your cast? |
| I
wrote the role of Dad to
Erno Fekete, who said yes
immediately. We had long
casting sessions until we
found Dora Letay as Mom
and Vitez Abraham as Alex. |
|
| What
is you most memorable moment
while making your film? |
| I
lost my copy of screenplay
on the set every day. After
the third day of shooting,
the gaffer came to me and
said: "The whole crew
has read the script and
I just want you to know
that we are ready to go
any extra mile if you need,
because this is something
special we are working on
here". That was the
first moment I felt I became
a film director. |
|
| After
your first cut, how many
re-edits did you do? |
| Editing
the film took exactly six
days from first touch to
final cut. Naturally, a
lot of fine tuning happened
after the first cut. |
|
| Did
you shoot on film or with
digital cameras? |
| We
shot on 35mm film stock. |
|
| How
many members of your cast? |
| Three. |
|
| If
you could choose any famous
actors to work with on future
projects, who would they
be? |
| There
are too many of them. But
if I had to name the one
who would be the perfect
protagonist in my next project,
which is my first feature
film, it would be Kate Winslet. |
