Q&A with Lucas Peltonen
How long did your project take to create, from conception to final completion?
Total time was 4 years. We took our time writing it, and then had several major interruptions during the editing process.
Where did your inspiration come from?
A friend wondered what it would be like if you knew you were evil. What would you do about it?.
Is Horror your primary creative interest?
If not #1, it's in the top 3..
Can you describe a typical day in the process of creating your film?
I worked early mornings. Came home, got a coffee to nurse my hangover and then worked on it for a few hours until I had to go back to work that night.
Who do you consider to be the greatest horror writer?
I'm a sucker for pretty much everything John Carpenter has done.
Can you recall the first horror film that left a lasting impression on you?
Poltergeist. I think I still have flashbacks.
Who do you consider to be the greatest 'Masters of Horror'?
Karloff. Vincent Price. Romero. Carpenter. Raimi. I would have to include Kubrick because of "the Shining." And Danny Boyle because of "28 Days Later."
How many people comprised your cast and crew?
Three castmembers, thirty plus in the crew..
How did you find your cast?
I had worked with Damani before, and Paul had auditioned for me for my first film. He wasn't really right for that first film, but I liked him.
What was the most memorable moment of the shoot?
After we wrapped at 5am or so, I got beers for the crew. Then, someone broke out some pot and people were smoking. Then, one of the PA's said, "Lucas, call an ambulance," and then promply passed out. I spent the next few hours in the hospital with the poor guy.
Did you shoot on film or with digital cameras?
We shot on Super 16 film.
If you could choose any famous actors to work with on future projects, who would they be?
Christian Bale would be great as a Werewolf Hunter. Naomi Watts would have to be in it, too.
