Dark Romance Review |
|
Bugcrush
is the product of brilliant
film making. Simply the
fact that the homoerotic
elements of this tale are
presented in such a natural,
sympathetic and non-exploitive
way displays a great deal
of creative finesse and
sensitivity.
Writer/director Carter Smith
constructs his movie like
a compulsive page-turner,
letting the very believable
but very bizarre story unfold
with perfect timing as his
protagonist's sense of comfort
and safety gradually disolves
around him.
The entire cast, brilliantly
chosen by Jennifer Venditti,
deserve special praise for
their understated, entirely
realistic performances.
Based on a short story by
Steven Treleaven first published
in the anthology "Queer
Fear 2," Bugcrush won
the Sundance Film Festival
Award for Best Short Filmmaking
in 2006.. |
