Dark Romance Review |
|
The
filmaking team of Todd Bieber
and Juliana Brafa is quite
an impressive one. Between
them, they're responsible
for providing the writing,
directing, acting, producing,
editing as well as the cinematography
in what is an ambitious
and effective film.
Ms Brafa is a natural beauty
who elicits sympathy despite
her somewhat dreary character,
named Janet Blank, a rare
mix of listless victim and
feisty survivor.
The team's sense of leavening
humor is droll, and their
style is minimalist. The
impressive addition of Linda
Blair to the excellent cast
of otherwise unknowns gives
"All is Normal"
a mainstream flavor in a
very independently produced
film.. |

|
| How long did your project take to create, from conception to final completion? |
| We started in Spring of 2004 and we're still working on it. |
|
| Where did your inspiration come from? |
| Being that I co-wrote and co-directed this movie with Juliana Brafa, I can only answer for myself. A simple and general answer is that my inspiration came from my love of storytelling. To be able to tell people a story through movies, and see their reaction is quite amazing. All is Normal has many specific inspirations that are both personal, but I'd rather not go into that, and rather allow the viewer to take from it what they will. |
|
| Is Horror or Sci-Fi your primary creative interest? |
| We don't label ourselves as horror filmmakers. We've made a variety of sytles and genres of films in the past, and we plan to continue doing that. For All is Normal, horror in the vein of Hitchcock and David Lynch was the primary influence for our creativity.
|
|
| Can you describe a typical day in the process of creating your film? |
| There were no typical days. One day I suffer from heat exhaustion, the next Juliana (the star, co-director, co-writer) is suffering from 1st to 2nd degree frost bite, and then another day we're working with Linda Blair... and then another day we're negotiating deals with investors. It was a surreal experience. |
|
| Who do you consider to be the greatest horror writer? |
| George Orwell. Does he count? |
|
|
| Can you recall the first horror film that left a lasting impression on you? |
| The Exorcist. |
|
| Who do you consider to be the greatest 'Master of Horror'? |
| As cliched as it sounds, Hitchcock. So amazing. |
|
| How many participants comprised your crew? |
| Lots of people. I've lost count. We couldn't have made this movie without our talented and dedicated crew. They were awesome. |
|
| How many castmembers? |
| There were 6 main members of the cast and numerous small parts and extras. |
|
| How did you find your cast? |
| Mostly through auditions, but some were friends who had acted in previous projects. Linda Blair we approached for her part. We sent her the script and she liked it and after months of negotiating she decided to take on the project. We're very happy that she agreed to be part of our movie. |
|
| Did you re-edit your film after the first cut? |
| We re-edited the film over the course of 6-8 months. I still don't know if this is the final cut, but it is very very close. |
|
| Did you shoot on film or with digital cameras? |
| Digital. |
|
| If you could choose any famous actors to work with on future projects, who would they be? |
| John C. Reilly. |
