| How long did your project take to create, from conception to final completion? |
| Two years. |
|
| Where did your inspiration come from? |
The idea for the movie just popped into my head one day. I thought it would be a great opportunity to do something that is rare in an independent film and make a character driven, story driven movie on a much grander scale than has been done in the past-- so THE OTHER SIDE is jam-packed with action, stunts, and some insane creature FX.
What was most important to me was that the story and characters always come first. So while this film has plenty of action and effects in it, it's not about action and effects. At its core, THE OTHER SIDE is a human story about a man who has to face his inner demons, while he's literally fighting his outer demons. In the end, I wanted to make the kind of movie I'd actually go out and see on a Friday night with all my friends. |

| Is Horror or Sci-Fi your primary creative interest? |
| I have always been drawn to supernatural stories since I was a kid.
|
|
| Can you describe a typical day in the process of creating your film? |
THE OTHER SIDE was a true guerilla filmmaking experience. Usually these type of movies are made through a studio and have big budgets and long schedules.
We had neither, so we had to work ten times harder than the guys who did.
We shot this movie extremely fast. Since I was the camera operator and the editor, I was able to be very proficient and shoot only what I needed.
By filming the movie with a loose documentary style, we were able to give the film a gritty realism and a unique energy, and also create an atmosphere where we could be completely mobile with the cast and crew. This allowed us to blaze through scenes, get plenty of coverage, and give the movie an energy that's missing in most Hollywood movies we see today. |
