Dark Romance Review |
|
One
of the most "under
the radar" entries
at Shriekfest 2006, "Skewed"
has not as yet even been
listed on IMDb. Flashing
by with a cerebral concept
and a minimal running time
of 10 minutes, there's a
lot of piqued curiosity
with no time to satisfy
it.
In Jeremy Wechter's script,
a physicist confides to
a friend that a corporate
conspiracy to use "time
dialation" to cherry-pick
future-time inventions will
ultimately lead to cosmic
anihilation.
It's an idea that begs for
the time to develop labyrinthine
plot twists and the budget
to create special effects.
Wechter's actors are passionate,
but they lack the maturity
of age to fill out their
roles. The director's dream
cast would have a great
time with this one. [see
our Q&A with Jeremy
Wechter]. |

|
| How
long did your project take
to create, from conception
to final completion? |
| One
year. |
|
| Where
did your inspiration come
from? |
| I
wrote a cosmic thriller
feature script also called
SKEWED and I decided to
direct a short film version.
The short version thematically
plays with the ideas of
the desperate length people
in power will go in order
to keep their power. |
|
| Is
Horror or Sci-Fi your primary
creative interest? |
| I
am open to all genres. |
|
| Can
you describe a typical day
in the process of creating
your film? |
| There
is no typical day, since
writing is very different
from casting which is very
different from production
which is very different
from editing. |
|
| Who
do you consider to be the
greatest horror writer? |
| I
really enjoyed Kevin Williamson's
Scream Trilogy. |
|
|
| Can
you recall the first horror
film that left a lasting
impression on you? |
| A
Nightmare on Elm Street |
|
| Who
do you consider to be the
greatest 'Masters of Horror'? |
| Wes
Craven and Stephen King |
|
| How
many participants comprised
your crew? |
| We
had a crew of 6. |
|
| How
many castmembers? |
| We
had a cast of 3 leads and
4 extras. |
|
| How
did you find your cast? |
| I
put up ads and held casting
auditions for 2 days in
a professional casting facility.
I saw over a 100 people
and narrowed it down to
the 2 young leads. For the
older lead I scheduled 10
older actors to come by
my apartment. |
|
| Did
you re-edit your film after
the first cut? |
| Nope. |
|
| Did
you shoot on film or with
digital cameras? |
| Digital. |
|
| If
you could choose any famous
actors to work with on future
projects, who would they
be? |
| For
the leads of the feature
version of SKEWED, I want
Adrien Brody to play Luca,
Maggie Gyllenhaal to play
Keely and Chris Cooper to
play Donovon. I actually
handed Adrien Brody a copy
of the feature screenplay
SKEWED. He was very nice
and accepted.. |
