"Sexy,
forceful front to Lacuna Coil"
Cristina
Scabbia, the charismatic lead
singer of Lacuna Coil, has an
all-inclusive view of art, music
and fashion that reflects the
creative soul of Milan, Italy,
one of the fashion centers of
the world, and Cristina's hometown.
Her attitude is that the members
of Lacuna Coil are above all
artists, and with that comes
an appreciation for every facet
of what the band offers its
fans, be it musical, lyrical
or visual. Cristina is happy
to be appreciated as the beautiful
woman she is, and she takes
to photography as one more way
to create art. Though small
in stature, her dark radiance
projects a larger than life
prescence, whether onstage or
in photographs.
Lacuna
Coil's devoted core of fans
have been with them for years,
pre-dating the recent mainstream
popularity of gothic rock that
was forged by the breakthrough
success of Evanescence. In the
years since that band's release
of 'Fallen,' Lacuna Coil has
achieved their own well-deserved
success, earning a place on
the soundtrack of Underworld:
Evolution and an opening slot
on Rob Zombie's 2006 tour in
addition to performing at Ozzfest.
Italy
has been renown in gothic culture
as the source of the legendary
giallo filmmakers, Bava, Fulci
and Argento, and it was just
a matter of time before an Italian
gothic influence inspired greatness
in an Italian rock band that
could establish a worldwide
following. Perhaps there's also
a bit of influence from Italy's
love of opera and classical
music in Lacuna Coil's tight
musical arrangements and dramatic
sound. There's definitely a
Milanese sense of style in their
look that's demonstrative of
their desire for perfection,
whether projecting cool confidence
on magazine covers or hot intensity
on the concert stage.
Lacuna
Coil's name is derived from
a joining of latin and english
words: lacuna, meaning
a lack of something, as a blank
slate or unfilled potential
and the english word coil.
In Cristina's definition, the
name thus translates to "Empty
Spiral."
