"Sex,
subversion, style, humour, songs."
Thus the official bio of Alison
Goldfrapp's band describes them
perfectly:
Glam-sex decadence, pioneering
electronics, crystalline vocals
and visual theatrics
the
sound and vision of Art-Pop-Now...
the crack of Marlene Dietrich's
stiletto on Donna Summer's back
a thundering, sweat-lashed soundscape.
The songwriting duo of Alison
Goldfrapp and Will Gregory has
produced songs that have inspired
remix requests from the likes
of Marilyn Manson. Each successive
recording has added a layer of
stylistic mastery, from the edgy
electronica of 'Felt Mountain'
to the seductive and playful but
ever-worldly songs of the newest
album, Supernature.
The most recent concert tour features
the band at their most dreamlike,
with Alison accompanied by choreographed
female dancers dressed as surreal
characters, from Lovecraftian
werewolves to mirrormasked horses.
The live band includes the very
sexy and talented Angie Pollock
on synthesizers, the brilliant
electric violinist Davide Rossi,
and the crack rhythm section of
Rowan Oliver (drums) and Charlie
Jones (bass).
To experience Goldfrapp is to
be immersed in a world of moody
melodies and dark sparkles. |
