In
some ways, to see a genuine
costume from a blockbuster
fantasy film is more exciting
than to meet the star who
wore it. After all, to meet
Viggo Mortensen, Tom Cruise
or Natalie Portman is to
be confronted by the first-hand
reality that they are not
Aragorn, The Vampire Lestat
or Padmé Amidala.
But brilliantly designed
and crafted costume will
always be exactly what is
was first seen as: the garment
of an unforgettable, larger
than life character. To
see such a garment or accessory
up close and almost near
enough to touch is to feel
a rare connection to the
world that inspired it,
like a visit to a museum
of Egyptian artifacts makes
one feel close to the time
and place of the Pharaohs. |
