The
Banshees' darkest, most
classically gothic album,
JuJu, offered the song
'Night Shift'
The
seed which later
flowered as Siouxsie
and the Banshees
was planted at a
punk-rock festival
in 1976 when a cadre
of avid Sex Pistols
fans fronted by
Siouxsie Sioux,
and backed on drums
by Sid Vicious,
put together a semi-improvised
set featuring snippets
of songs as disparate
as Twist and Shout
and Smoke on the
Water. Evolving
over the course
of a decade, the
band was influenced
by glam-rock and
psychedelia. The
Banshees broke up
in 1996, leaving
Siouxsie and bandmate
Budgie to record
as The Creatures.
A solo Siouxsie
project is expected
in 2007.
