The "Buffy" We Never Saw


Darla the vampire was the very first continuing character seen onscreen as the television incarnation of Buffy the Vampire Slayer began.

This video artifact, the first ever pilot episode, shows Buffy as a work in progress, before Alyson Hannigan was cast in the role of Willow. Actress Riff Regan plays Willow in this early, unaired filming which was used to sell the series.

Soundstage sets and special effects showed a marked improvement as the series was later filmed for television.

  


The on-location sets at Sunnydale High remained the same from this early filming throughout the series.

Readers in the Los Angeles area can visit Sunnydale High in the city of Torrance. The school used for Buffy's alma mater was Torrance High School, located at 2200 West Carson Street.
