Beauty and the Beast: Milicent Patrick and The Creature
Milicent Patrick touches up her design sketch of the Creature (1) and the Creature himself.

In the early days of dark fantasy films, the designers, illustrators and make-up effects artists often went uncredited and unacclaimed for their brilliant work.

Milicent Patrick was one such artist who brought her skills and imagination to the birth process of two of the most famous monsters in Sci-Fi history.
Milicent designed and helped to build the Creature from the Black Lagoon and the Metaluna Mutant from This Island Earth, creations that influenced generations of film monsters that came after. Perhaps only H.R. Giger's Alien and Stan Winston's Predator are as memorable.
Milicent Patrick was also a successful actress until her retirement from acting in the late 60's.
