The Illusionist

The Illusionist is a tale of mystery and intrigue where the supernatural and magic become indistinguishable.

In turn of the century Vienna, a brilliant stage magician and a shrewd police inspector engage in a battle of wits as the detective and the Crown Prince strive to bebunk the performer's illusions.

Eisenheim the Illusionist in turn sets his skills toward claiming the beautiful fiancee of the Prince for himself.

 


Masterful performances, particularly by the ever more impressive Paul Giamatti, combine with a riveting plot and meticulously crafted scenes of Vienna in the Belle Epoch to present a unique and engrossing film.

The Illusionist was scored by renowned composer Phillip Glass and was directed by Neil Burger from his own script, adapted from the short story 'Eisenheim the Illusionist' by Steven Millhauser.
