Captain Jack Sparrow, a man of either myth or legend, was a brilliant cartographer before turning to piracy in the second half of the 1600's when Port Royal, Jamaica was a haven for swashbucklers. Even before his days as a pirate, young Sparrow sought adventure and fortune on the sea, in search of rare artifacts such as the Sword of Cortez, while acquiring knowledge of voodoo and supernatural phenomena.
    While still a young man, he became the captain of The Black Pearl, a pirate galleon.
His eccentric ways caused a mutiny by his crew, leaving him marooned with nothing but a pistol with which to take his own life. Rumrunners saved him from this sorry plight, and he was able to recover his ship after lifting a curse which had doomed it to a ghostly fate.
    Captain Jack was an easily spied individual, always in the midst of trouble, common or supernatural, often drunk, with a 'P' (for pirate) branded onto one arm, and a tattoo of a sparrow on the other. The kohl with which he limned his eyes is said by some to ward off evil spirits, of which Sparrow encountered many.
