The Campy, Creepy Films of William Castle

Not everyone remembers the name of William Castle in this century, but every horror fan is aware of his influence. He was the circus-master of horror in his day, creating shameless and irresistibly fun gimmicks to enhance and promote his many hit films.

House on Haunted Hill, 13 Ghosts and I Saw What You Did have all spawned modern remakes and The Tingler influenced every alien parasite movie since 1959.

Vincent Price and Joan Crawford each starred in several Castle films, with Ms Crawford appearing as an axe murderer in Strait-Jacket.

A rainy day with the best of William Castle's films makes for a campy, creepy, fun fear-fest.

~ Percpto: During theater showings of The Tingler, whenever blood-curdling screams occurred in the movie, hidden buzzers vibrated the seats.

~ Emergo:During House on Haunted Hill, a skeleton was released to glide down ovr the audience suspended on a wire.

~ Illusion-o: 13 Ghosts featured special 3-D glasses with which to see the ghosts.

~ Screenings of Mr. Sardonicus supposedly offered audiences the opportunity to choose one of two fates for the villain, although only one was ever filmed.
