| Glaucus
et Scylla by Salvatore Rosa |
|
|
|
|
| Glaucus
was a
fisherman
who was
transformed
into a
sea creature
by unwittingly
eating
a magical
herb.
Upon seeing
the beautiful
girl Scylla,
he fell
deeply
in love,
but the
girl rejected
his affection.
When Glaucus
sought
help from
the enchantress
Circe
in winning
the girl,
she wisely
advised
him to
find another
who would
love him
in return,
but his
heart
was inconsolable.
Circe
then punished
Scylla
for rejecting
Glaucus
by turning
her into
a hideous
monster,
thus ending
Glaucus'
obsession.
Scylla
then abode
near the
deadly
whirlpool
called
Charybdis,
where
she devoured
ill-fated
mariners
that sailed
too close
to her. |
