embracing skeletons preserved since the stone age
This pair of skeletons, found buried in an embrace that has lasted for 6,000 years, was unearthed at an archelogical site in Northern Italy, 25 miles south of Verona, in an industrial section of the town of Mantua. The remains were originally buried during the late Stone Age. A stone knife and arrowheads were also found in the grave.

Elena Menotti, the chief archaeologist at the site and a veteran of 25 years of excavations including Pompeii was moved by the unique find. "There has not been a double burial found in the Neolithic period, much less two people hugging - and they really are hugging," she explained.
The circumstances of death and burial will be examined, but the pair will be allowed to remain as they have been, undisturbed for millennia.
