The painter Dorian
Cleavenger is perhaps
best known for his
dramatic depictions
of erotic comic
book heroines. Lady
Death, Purgatori,
Chastity and Vampirella,
to name just a few,
have all been rendered
by the artist's
exquisite work with
brush and airbrush.
An artist since
childhood, Dorian
set out to make
his own way freelancing
professionally following
an abortive post-high
school stab at art
school. He did custom
airbrush painting
on cars and motorcycles
before determining
to advance his career
as an artist by
attending the Art
Institute of Pittsburgh.
His success there
motivated his determination
to succeed as a
fine artist and
illustrator.
After a time of
working on corporate
commissions, his
experimental, personal
work landed him
a job painting several
comic book covers,
and the artist has
never looked back.
Many more covers
as well as fully
painted stories
for major publishers
followed.
The art of Dorian
Cleavenger can now
be seen in books
devoted to his work,
as well as in various
gallery showings
in New York, Chicago
and his current
home of Los Angeles.
