Jocelyn Montgomery,
then Jocelyn West,
was one of the three
original members
of the madrigal-singing
Miranda Sex Garden.
As the band turned
to edgy and experimental
rock, Jocelyn went
her own way, eventually
to cross paths with
David Lynch. Jocelyn,
the Scottish daughter
of a fisherman and
the legendary film
director formed
an unlikely creative
partnership, with
Lynch as producer
of the ethereally
beautiful album
Lux Vivens.
The collection of
sacred songs, composed
by the 10th Century
nun and mystic Hildegard
von Bingen, combines
the classical training
and fond reverence
of Jocelyn's pure
voice and violin
with the iconoclastic
and dark sensibility
of Lynch to create
the most mesmerizing
of all the modern
recordings of Medieval
chant.
