Halo: The Effect of the Killer App

Halo has been the undisputed must-have video game since its debut in November 2001 when gamers were first able to assume the role of the technologically enhanced soldier SPARTAN-117 (called Master Chief from his military rank)

Halo is so outstanding because it excels at immersing gamers in an alternate reality in which a story of apocalyptic proportions is played out in awe- inspiring landscapes, where an endless array of possibilities can lead to the most exhilarating victories or stunning deaths. Halo isn't just played, it's experienced.

Gamers explore and battle on foot, but also drive and fly various vehicles.

As the story of Halo begins, Master Chief is roused from cryogenic sleep to defend a starship under attack by an alliance of alien races. A crash landing on an enormous, star-orbiting ring-world known as Halo, leads to a desperate fight to defeat not only the alien force, but more horrifying and potentially annihilistic forces as well.

After the heart-ponding climax of the original Halo: Combat Evolved, the story continues on planet Earth in the equally successful sequel: Halo 2.

Halo achieved sales of over 6 million and 2 million Halo 2
games were bought within 24 hours of its release in 2004.
