Paul
Delvaux
painted
this bizarre,
macabre
scene of
the Crucifixion.
Delvaux
began his
career as
an artist
in the 1920's
working
in a realist
style, but
he soon
turned to
surrealism
after being
particularly
inspired
by the work
of Giorgio
De Chirico.
Delvaux's
'Crucifixion'
is unusual
even for
him, as
he is best
known for
for his
female nudes
placed in
a surreal
environment.
Paul Delvaux
was also
known in
his lifetime
as a set
designer
for movies
and for
theater
and dance
productions.
The artist
died in
1994.
